Teixeira and Ubaldo Trade

Postby royalsfan1537 » Sun Apr 10, 2011 5:12 pm

I got the following trade offer in a 10 Category rotisserie league and am trying to see if I should take it. What do you guys think? Thanks a lot in advance.

I get: Mark Teixeira and Daniel Hudson
I give: Ubaldo Jimenez, (one of Justin Upton/Andrew McCutchen/Alex Gordon), and Derrek Lee

I feel like Tex is a sure thing and Hudson is a solid pitcher. Concerned I may be selling low on Ubaldo and not sure which OF I would choose to part with. I had considered dropping Lee anyway so view that as not really a loss. My team is below:

C Carlos Santana, Cle C
1B Derrek Lee, Bal 1B
2B Howard Kendrick, LAA 2B
3B Chipper Jones, Atl 3B
SS Troy Tulowitzki, Col SS
2B/SS Maicer Izturis, LAA 2B, 3B
1B/3B Placido Polanco, Phi 3B
OF Justin Upton, Ari OF
OF Andrew McCutchen, Pit OF
OF Hunter Pence, Hou OF
OF Angel Pagan, NYM OF
OF Alex Gordon, KC OF
UTIL Ben Francisco, Phi OF

Bench Casey McGehee, Mil 3B
Bench Rajai Davis, Tor OF
DL Evan Longoria*, TB 3B  DL15

P David Price, TB SP
P Cole Hamels, Phi SP
P Carlos Marmol, ChC RP
P Matt Garza, ChC SP
P Clay Buchholz, Bos SP
P Jaime Garcia, StL SP
P Leo Nunez, Fla RP
P Gio Gonzalez, Oak SP

Bench Ubaldo Jimenez*, Col SP  DL15
Bench Andrew Bailey*, Oak RP  DL15

I would take that deal and move Gordon. I don't love Hudson as he is a flyball pitcher in a hitters park but he should be solid and you have enough depth to make up for Ubaldo. Tex would be a very nice upgrade at 1st. But no matter what you have to trade Gordon if given the chance. I want him to succeed (a Royals fan myself) but he isn't in the same ball park as Upton and McCutchen.

If he is really fine with any of the three (Upton, Mccutchen, Gordon), then trade Gordon and Ubaldo in a heartbeat. Tex is a stud and would improve your offense significantly. I think your pitching staff will be just fine without Ubaldo as well.

Thoughts on mine?

While I think Gordon could be in store for a solid season, if the other owner really doesn't mind which OF you choose. Do it will Gordon and don't look back. ;-D

Thanks guys - very helpful. I think I was giving Gordon a little too much credit on wishful thinking and given his hot start. I think your points all make a lot of sense so will do the deal.
