Closers Are Three-Dimensional

Postby Arlo » Sun Mar 28, 2004 6:16 pm

How much are closers worth?

It seems as if no other position generates such a wide variety of opinions. For some, closers are the key to winning a league; for others, they're a necessary evil to avoid dropping behind in the saves category.

Chris Berger, known to one and all as EugeneStyles, has decided to get to the bottom of the issue and figure out just how much closers can contribute to a lineup. His results, featured in the latest Point of View article, may well surprise you...

What are your thoughts on closers? Do you pick up the elite early on, or wait to draft the likes of Baez and Chacon late in the draft? Share your thoughts right here!

Most of the discussion on this has already taken place in the Talk forum.

My only comment is that because of the low IP a closer has a lower ceiling and a higher floor as far as WHIPImp and ERAImp are concerned. So they are conservative investments and you don't often win a league by being conservative.

Very nice article.
