Go after Walden?

Postby Mr. D » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:17 pm

Intrigued by this guy & would love to have him in my RP slot. Just missed him on FA wire

Would need to trade in a 12 team Yahoo H2H - non keeper

Owner has turned down Pineda, Burnett,Travis Wood thus far (he is short on SP)

Thoughts from this line up that may get his attention without giving too much? I thought Pineda may do it but maybe with a few more quality starts it will? Or wait for the next BP implosion

Austin Jackson maybe? I'm really not a fan of trading for a recent FA pickup. Value's never gonna be higher (well, most likely). And if I'm going to trade for a closer, it's because I'm desperate for saves so I'm going to go after someone who's got a death grip on the job, like Mo Rivera-level deathgrip. Walden is hardly a lock to keep this gig.

Remember, you can only control what you have and can do. I can understand him not wanting a rookie SP, as it's not a keeper league. But I'm surprised he also balked at Travis Wood. I'd venture to guess, then, that his RP is a weakness and that's why he is hesitant to get rid of Walden.

What are his weaknesses? Can you post his roster?

Walden's trade value will never be higher than it is right now. He's pitched FEWER THAN 25 INNINGS above AA. He's still a little wild.

Wait a few outings, he'll come back to earth.

But I'm surprised he also balked at Travis Wood

I wouldve balked at the Travis Wood offer too.
Right now Walden's value is really high. He can be a 2nd closer on any team.
The word is, that its his job to lose now, and he did nothing to see that coming anytime soon.
So I would want more, than a Travis Wood, who could lose his spot in the rotation, knowing the Reds pitching depth. Once Bailey and Cueto comes off the DL, and Leake keeps pitching well, things can get foggy.
I would want Beachy and C Lewis for Hughes and Walden.
If you can get him for less, you win.

Hmmm...definitely still surprised he balked at Wood considering he has Blanton in his rotation. How about offering Ben Francisco and Michael Pineda? Francisco is a role player, and Pineda is much more valuable in keeper leagues.

Francisco & Pineda for Walden is an option. As above poster mentioned Walden's value has never been higher.....could quickly change after a blown save or another quality start out of Woods or Pineda.

Peralta is a FA!

Hold on Walden & get Peralta and drop Bard (bard was my back up for the papelbn meltdown but if the sox continue like this papelbon starts to look good after a couple of beers!)

Bard is probably not giving me ANY value right now, where as Peralta could be part of BBC??

Maybe, but Peralta isn't a closer (yet) either. Technically, it's Kyle Farnsworth, and I would figure Jake McGee will grab the job before the season is up. Still, if Bard continues to do nothing for you, it may be worth the risk. Just remember though...if the Sox trade Papelbon, Bard become a top-10 closer.

I came across this during my research for you....it may be of some interest to you: http://theprocessreport.com/2011/03/04/should-joel-peralta-be-the-rays-closer/

Great Read - Thank you! Good to make decisions based on solid data and not knee jerk reactions to take advantage of your competition:)

So I should keep Bard on my roster & see how the first few months play out?
