should i allow this trade:

Postby maximf » Wed Apr 06, 2011 4:32 pm

i'm a comish in a 10 team keeper league, a trade just passed that sent king felix to a team that traded back paul konerko and brett myers, i dont like this trade because konerko and myers are just not that good, have their games but overall not nearly as dependably as felix hernandez, so should i uphold or veto the trade?

If you have good reason to suspect collusion/cheating, veto it. Otherwise, let it go. It's not your job to be the "Fair Trade Police" - if someone wants to make a stupid trade, that's his choice...

This may be mitigated by the rules of your league (are there salary/contract issues at play here?), but on its face I think you should veto this trade. In a 10-teamer, Myers is arguably droppable and Konerko is a low-end 1B.

I'm generally a "no vetos except for collusion" guy, but I do make exceptions for trades that are so imbalanced they have the potential to really disrupt the league. Is the Felix owner panicking because he's mortal? Who's he replacing at 1B with Konerko?

What are your league rules concerning vetos? Like the above poster said, unless it's specifically written into your constitution, it's not your job to make sure every trade passes some arbitrary standard of fairness. People will make bad trades, and they'll learn from it, or else they won't.

I've been a commissioner of leagues since 1988 and thgere is one thing a commissoner can't do. You can't undo stupidity... but then again, the opposing team may have a good reason for doing the trade (I can't think of one in this case). But I agree with the other posters, unless you suspect collusion, you let it go.
