Mussina - he's still got it
Santana - very underated.. but finally being appreciated
Millwood - way overated
Affeldt - sleeper
Hampton - sux
Lee - sux
Leiber - dunno .. .hasn't pitched in a year
I think it's enough. You have arguably 3 aces on your team in Mussina, Millwood, and Santana. Hampton is a very good 4th or 5th starter, and Affeldt and Lee are both big sleepers.
I would rank them as follows:
Mussina
Santana
Millwood
Hampton
Affeldt
Lee
Lieber
TownDrunk: you and I have a lot in common (giants, sharks, seinfeld), but I myself put Affeldt over Hampton. But thats trivial compared to my next question: How would Carpenter and Garland fit into this list? And where would I be if I did those two trades I mentioned in my original post?
Take a look at Hampton's 2nd half numbers from last season. He was quite impressive, and I think he'll have a solid year.
I dont like Garland much, and but Carpenter I'm not sure about. He has pitched very well this spring and I suppose you might want to take him over Lieber. However, both have injury concerns. On the other hand, Lieber plays for the power packed Yankees. So, I'm not sure. These guys don't have a big enough push in my mind to validate dropping Lieber for one of them.
Prior would be a good pickup. I think Santana will have a very good season, but if you can get Prior, you pull the trigger.
I too, think Millwood is a tad bit overrated. However, he's still good. Keep in mind that there was scuttlebut going around of Affeldt possibly closing out games this season.
I have Benitez. Millwood will be traded for Borowski. My league has holds, and since I dont want to have more than 4 relief pitchers (six starters makes me happy), I only want two closers and two holds guys.
