Thoughts on Matusz? Pick him up?

Postby lbblue » Fri Apr 01, 2011 12:01 pm

Matusz was already dropped in my 12 team keeper league. My SP is OK, but not great (Haren, Liriano, Wandy, De La Rosa, Zambrano) so I've put in a waiver claim for him. This site has Matusz as their 69th ranked SP.I like Matusz better than several SP ranked above him. Am I too high on the guy? I know he's young and fairly unproven and that he plays in the AL East, but the upside is there and he really seemed to figure it out in the second half of last season. I'm just kind of curious to get some general opinions on the guy and whether or not you'd use a waiver priority on him if you were me.

He's certainly worth a look in a keeper league. The potential is there, but he will take some lumps in a tough AL East division. Who are you dropping for him?

Dropping Tyler Clippard. Holds is a scoring category in this league but I've added a couple RP since the draft and have enough middle relievers to where I don't need Clippard.

I figured, if nothing else, Matusz will be a guy I can start when the matchups are right. I'll be very reluctant to start him against teams like Boston and NY, obviously, but he'd basically be my 5th starter so I don't exactly have to roll him out there every time he takes the mound.

I like Matusz. Like people above said, potential is there.

btw: dont underestimate his potential against Boston. Sox got a ton of left handed hitters... i would give him a chance against Boston.
