Trade Hughes for Beltre straight up?

Postby runyourpockets » Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:02 am

I'm in an ESPN H2H league with 12 teams.

My roster is as follows:

Victor Martinez, Det C
Mark Teixeira, NYY 1B
Kelly Johnson, Ari 2B
Ian Stewart, Col 3B
Hanley Ramirez, Fla SS
Jayson Werth, Was OF
Curtis Granderson, NYY OF
Nick Swisher, NYY OF
Mitch Moreland, Tex 1B
Erick Aybar, LAA SS
Lance Berkman, StL 1B, DH
Ryan Raburn, Det OF
Manny Ramirez, TB OF, DH
Mark Reynolds, Bal 3B
Grady Sizemore*, Cle OF DL15

---
Jon Lester, Bos SP
Jered Weaver, LAA SP
David Price, TB SP
Phil Hughes, NYY SP
Jeremy Hellickson, TB SP
Joakim Soria, KC RP
Brian Fuentes, Oak RP

He proposed a trade of Adrian Beltre for Phil Hughes straight up. I really want to drop Reynolds because my team is already strikeout happy as it is, and you never know with Stewart. Id like to have a solid consistent third basemen like Beltre, and he wants another pitcher. So do you think its worth it in the long run? And if it does go through should i pick up Ervin Santana to replace hughes?

his roster:
Kurt Suzuki, Oak C
Kevin Youkilis, Bos 1B
Ben Zobrist, TB 2B, OF
David Wright, NYM 3B
Troy Tulowitzki, Col SS
Aubrey Huff, SF 1B, OF
Angel Pagan, NYM OF
Michael Cuddyer, Min OF, 1B
Adrian Beltre, Tex 3B
Rickie Weeks, Mil 2B
Carlos Beltran, NYM OF
Scott Rolen, Cin 3B
James Loney, LAD 1B
Seth Smith, Col OF
----
Cole Hamels, Phi SP
Wandy Rodriguez, Hou SP
Jonathan Sanchez, SF SP
Jhoulys Chacin, Col SP
Ricky Romero, Tor SP
Neftali Feliz, Tex RP
Craig Kimbrel, Atl RP

That trade looks fine for you. You've got three aces to anchor your rotation already, and it looks like you have a decent replacement on the wire lined up to replace him. Beltre should put up solid numbers in hitter friendly Texas. and would represent an upgrade over your current options.

However, I wouldn't drop Reynolds for Santana if you make this deal. A guy like Berkman or Aybar is much more expendable.
