Use #6 waiver on Hellickson?...whir

Postby magus » Thu Mar 31, 2011 11:41 pm

10 team, 5x5 yahoo roto league, 14 player keeper. I have the #6 waiver priority and Hellickson was dropped. Is it worth it to use it on him, should I hold out hope that no one claims him instead (based solely on the value of losing your waiver position this early), or not pick him up at all? And if I grab him, who would you drop? Here's my team:

C: Geovany Soto (C)
1B: Ben Zobrist (1B,2B,OF)
2B: Brian Roberts (2B)
3B: Aramis Ramirez (3B)
SS: Jose Reyes (SS)
IF: Pablo Sandoval (1B,3B)
OF: Matt Holliday (OF), Alex Rios (OF), Jayson Werth (OF), Juan Pierre (OF)
Util: Nick Swisher (OF)
BN: Mark Reynolds (3B), Carlos Beltran (OF), Manny Ramirez (OF), Ike Davis (1B)

SP: Brett Anderson (SP), Roy Oswalt (SP), David Price (SP)
RP: Heath Bell (RP), Chris Perez (RP)
P: Max Scherzer (SP), Ricky Nolasco (SP), Jake McGee (RP)
BN: Colby Lewis (SP), James Shields (SP)

What do ya think? Thanks for any help! Leave a link!

Definitely. Unless you think there is someone specific another team might drop. You're not going to find a much better prospect out there, especially in a keeper league. plus #6 priority is good, but well worth it here. I would be surprised if he doesn't get claimed before your position comes up. I think I would drop Colby Lewis.

I would use the claim. My choice of who to drop would be between McGee and Shields. I would probably drop Shields and hope McGee gets most of the saves.

As it's only the #6 priority, it's not a big loss, especially if you get a guy like Hellickson out of it. I'd drop Beltran for him.

It is worth it to get a prospect like Hellickson in a keeper. As far as who you should drop it would probably be between Mcgee or Beltran.
