Terrible veto. This trade could easily go either way.
A veto should only be used when collusion/cheating is suspected and should not be used to protect managers who make dumb deals (not the case in this one).

After a lengthy discussion on the message board last night w/several owners, including the commish. This trade was re-submitted and will be allowed.

Can you please tell this to my league! Almost everything in my league gets vetoed and it's ridiculous.
I would not have vetoed this trade, but coming from a league where most trades are vetoed, I can definitely see why it was. It can be argued that Alex Rios is not much better than BJ Upton and Ubaldo is a significant improvement over the combo of Danks and Gonzalez. Yes Ubaldo was not great in the 2nd half, but his 1st half utter dominance shows he's capable of top 5 pitching.
Help with mine?

That's a whole lot of speculation to arrive at some justification to veto a trade.
The only leagues I really participate in allow voting on trades, but enough votes only opens the trade to review and discussion, with comish getting ultimate ruling. If the participants can justify the trade from both sides, it should always go through.
