Trade Question

Postby Conrax » Sat Mar 26, 2011 6:16 pm

I am going to show the initial offer then my counter (both will have points based off of 2010 season according to league settings), then the scoring system then both rosters. My question is which trade do you think is the fairer trade, the initial or the counter or neither (if choose neither please explain)

General Information: The league is a 14 team, H2H points, basically 20 Keeper league.

His initial offering:
I give Ryan Howard (359.5 points (2010 season based on league scoring)
I get John Lackey (419.5 points)

My counter:
I give Ryan Howard (359.5)
I get Cliff Lee (541.5)

Scoring System:

Batting:
Singles (1B) 1 Doubles (2B) 2
Triples (3B) 3 Home Runs (HR) 4
Walks (BB) 1 Runs Scored (R) 1
Runs Batted In (RBI) 1 Stolen Bases (SB) 1
Strikeouts (K) -1 Intentional Walks (IBB) 1
Sacrifices (SAC) 0.5 Caught Stealing (CS) -1
Ground into Double Plays (GIDP) -1 Errors (E) -1

Pitching:
Innings Pitched (IP) 1.5 Earned Runs (ER) -1
Wins (W) 10 Losses (L) -5
Saves (SV) 3 Blown Saves (BS) -3
Strikeouts (K) 1 Walks Issued (BB) -1
Hit Batsmen (HB) -1 Pick Offs (PKO) 1
Complete Games (CG) 3 Quality Starts (QS) 2

I don't think either trade looks even to me...and I'm not sure why you are trading Howard for more pitching...you have Kershaw, Jimenez, Greinke (DL I know, but he will hopefully be around most of the season). Another thing I noticed, is that he looks like the only slugger you have in your lineup right now - I do see Cruz on the bench. One other thing, in the Lackey/Howard trade, he is trading what looks like a spare (bench player) for a starter on almost any team...I personally try not to do those trades.

I'll tell what happened, I have been wanting to trade one of my first basemen since I have 3 of them, and explained that I would rather keep Howard but if the right offer came along I wouldn't be opposed to trade him.

So the guy offers up the initial deal of Howard for Lackey which I declined and stated that probably the only thing that really interested me on his roster was Cliff Lee and even then I am not sure I would take because I'd rather upgrade my other infield spots. He then gave back a rude response berating me for even proposing a trade of Howard for Lee and citing how Lee was projected to produce 600+ points compared to Howard who was projected to only about 400 points. Then we basically went back and forth a little bit till I ended up blocking the guy from my email. Which lead to this initial post of asking which trade seemed fairer.

Sorry to hear it went South fast - hard to make deals when the other guy decides to escalate things to juvenile behavior.
