Bench Management in Yahoo - Daily Roster Changes

Postby sweettortilla » Thu Mar 24, 2011 12:21 pm

I'm playing Yahoo 5x5 H2H league for the first time this year. It allows daily roster changes (I've been playing CBS H2H for years, where you set a weekly roster on Sunday).

Question: what is the right strategy for bench management in a daily roster change? How many bats do you keep on your bench to swap in and out? Given that many teams play only 6 times each week, do you keep 2-3 additional bats on the bench to swap in for those off days?

I'm used to stocking up on pitchers, and swapping those. Just not sure how to manage my bench spots.

Roster spots are: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, P, P, P, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL

Thanks for your help!

With 8 bench spots and shallow starting rosters, I'd do exactly that: 2-3 bench bats and the rest pitchers. If you feel like strategizing a bit, go with 1-2 bench bats and pick up 2-3 middle relievers to shore up your ratios week to week. Keep in mind when playing matchups, there's going to be some guys in your league that draft like 5 bench hitters and some that draft 7 bench pitchers.
