Erik Bedard?

10 ks in 10 innings for bedard, whose slated to start the season as the M's 4th starter. Any reason to think he might be effective if healthy?

He's always effective when he's healthy, the problem is he is NEVER healthy. I'd pick him up if you can off waivers, but i wouldn't waste a draft pick on him. He'll probably get 5-10 starts then go down again.

It all depends on league size and type. If it's a 10 team or less league, then no, I wouldn't worry about him, pitching is deep. If it's a 12 team or more, why not take a flier on him in the late rounds? I took him as my #5 starter in a 14 team, 1250 IP Max roto league in the 18th round (I believe pick 244). If he gets hurt again, oh well, it's only a late round pick. But if he stays healthy, maybe he gives you 150+ IP with solid ratios, which at pick 244 is golden (not saying he's going to do that but I'm willing to roll the dice).

I'm with Balco on this one. Last year I used my final pick in two leagues to take a flyer on a pitcher coming off a year lost to injury. Some guy named Shaun Marcum.

Sure, it doesn't always work out that well, but it's the final rounds. If he sucks/gets hurt, toss him.

DL spots were invented for guys like Bedard, pick him up use him when healthy and reap the rewards. When he goes to the DL and pick up a stop gap till he gets back, Bedard stats plus those of the stop gap u pick up replacing him while he is out should pay big dividends for those in deeper leagues. I took him in the last round of a draft and if i can get 100-125 ip outta Bedard i will be happy with that.
