Drafting Util - Pick One *WHIR*

Postby RyeWhiskey » Tue Mar 22, 2011 7:34 pm

Alright, so my 12 team, H2H, 9 player keeper league draft is moving along. Here's my team, with keepers marked with asterisks and draft picks noted.

C -
1B - MCab*
2B - Phillips*
3B - Zimmerman*
SS - Jeter*
OF - Braun*
OF - Holliday*
OF - J Upton*
Util -

SP - Billingsley*
SP - B Anderson*
SP - M Scherzer (first pick, round 10)
SP - R Nolasco (fourth pick, round 14)
RP - J Broxton (second pick, round 11)
RP - B Lidge (third pick, round 12)

Now that I've got my pitching reinforced, I feel I need to draft my Util. I'm looking at the following guys:
Michael Young
Carlos Lee
Vernon Wells
Torii Hunter
Vlad Guerrero
Travis Snider
Manny Ramirez

All are veterans with proven histories (exception being Snider). I want the best hitter. It is possible that I could wait a round or two and snag another closer and SP in the meantime (see below).
Closers available: R Franklin, J Hanrahan, B Lyon, F Rodney. Then another tier of J Rauch/F Francisco, Venters, League, Gregg, etc...
SPs available: J Chacin, J Zimmerman, J De La Rosa, B Myers, I Kennedy, J Cueto, J Shields, etc..

Should I draft a Util now? If so, who? Or should I draft a pitcher? If so, who?

Thanks for any response and leave a link - I will respond within 24 hrs.

I would probably also go with Hunter. I had him last year at UTIL I like what he did and he should do well again this year. But yeah like the previous post stated, I'm not that familiar with Keeper leagues.

I prefer taking hitting over pitching normally, but the hitters that you list are all a little scary. I might go with a pitcher. If a rp, I like Lyon as the best closer available. As a sp I like de la rosa closely followed by chacin.

Whether I chose sp or rp would depend on the setup of the league.

Thanks for the help on mine, and yeah, I was team A. Thank god.

Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I think you could probably use another SP, then grab one of those guys that might still be around in the next round.

Id probably lean towards Chacin or De La Rosa. If you're dead set on a bat, I'd lean towards Hunter.

Thanks for helping on mine.

Looks to me that your SP left in the league is much shallower than the bats, so while I think Hunter's the best player option of all the guys there, I would also go with Chacin and get a dependable SP with so many comparable utility bats.

Help with mine? viewtopic.php?f=26&t=424807&p=3367029#p3367029, thanks!
