Our league grew from 10 to 14 to 16 over the past 3 years. We are doing an auction draft this year for the first time. I need some help with player values. We have small rosters (18 players, 1 DL spot) and a salary cap of $260. Cats are standard 5x5 plus OBP and QS. h2h format. No keepers.
Any general guidance? Do guys go for more since the league is so big? Or do they go for the same as the rosters are small and the overall number of players is smaller? Does position take priority (there are only so many decent SS)?? Thanks.

ESPN, weekly h2h, 16 team, 4 RP max, daily lineup moves. Cats: 5x5 plus OBP and QS. Non-keeper. I like to stream SP weekly so I am looking at $200 on offense and $60 for pitching ($15 for a stud closer, $15x2 for 2 solid SP, and then fill in the rest).

P x 6 (max 4 RP) Bench x 3

Generally I'd say guys go for a little less since you're increasing the number of players taken without increasing the budget.
Starting pitching will probably be WAY undervalued if you only have 6 P spots. I could see going contrarian in this league and doing a pitching heavy strategy. Then again, H2H with daily lineup changes is probably the worst format for this. In a weekly roto league with these settings I think you'd see Halladay, Felix and Lincecum all go $50+, and rightly so as they'd give you a massive advantage with QS thrown in.
I'm leaning toward a position scarcity plan. Even if I end up with multiple guys at one position, I can make trades to fill in gaps. Does this work in an auction?? Thanks is advance.
Guys will go for more considering there are limited amount of studs. Teams will either have one or two studs with the rest being 1-5 dollar players or others will be filled with 10-15 dollar players.
I like the strategy a lot, especially pitching wise. All i can say is that if you feel that someone is too much, then they probably are. Be smart and stick to your strategy, and you'll be alright. Sorry I can't say any more, I'm not a big auction guy. Thanks for the help on mine!
Try not to overpay for guys who offer skills you can get for cheap (for example, speed demons are easier to find for cheap later than power hitters). If you do pay for SP, I would pay up more for the guys who are elite with K's.
