Which pitcher should I select? THANKS!

Postby TheGhost » Tue Mar 22, 2011 1:04 pm

So I have the fourth pick in my upcoming fantasy baseball draft. (H2H total points league). My league is weighted towards pitching and it's critical that I get an ace. Roy Halladay will be the first off the board followed by Albert Pujols. Not sure who is going to go in the third spot but I definitely could get either Tim Lincecum or Felix Hernandez. Or do I go with Cliff Lee or C.C. Sabithia? Wins/Quality Starts/Complete Games/Strikeouts are the most important stats. Below are the amount of points each pitcher scored last year to give you a feel of our scoring system. How would you rank the top four pitchers in my league considering my scoring system?

Halladay, Roy SP PHI
1091.3

Wainwright, Adam SP STL
945.9

Sabathia, CC SP NYY
929.7

Jimenez, Ubaldo SP COL
907.0

Hernandez, Felix SP SEA
864.6

Verlander, Justin SP DET
863.7

Price, David SP TB
856.4

Lester, Jon SP BOS
845.1

Lincecum, Tim SP SF
791.3

Carpenter, Chris SP STL
772.5

Weaver, Jered SP ANA
766.7

Lee, Cliff SP PHI
750.3

If you are set on taking pitching, then i would grab Felix.

That's the way I'm leaning. Mostly because of his age and that he still has upside. Not too mention I'm an M's fan and will be able to watch him in person. The problem is that the Mariners offense is pathetic. We get 20 points for a win and those wins really help in my league.

I've also thought about taking Hanley or Miggy but by the time my second or third round pick comes around I'm worried there won't be a lot of aces out there left. Pitchers go quick and fast. Lester, Lee, and those types will be gone. Maybe a Kershaw will be available.

Last year I went for offense while others went for picthing. I ended up with a crazy good offensive team... Hanley, Tulo, CarGo, Kemp, J. Upton (ugh), Choo, McCutchen and a few more pretty good guys. For some reason I couldn't beat the guys that had the best pitching in my league. My pitchers weren't awful either. Had Kershaw, Latos, Gallardo, C.J. Wilson. I just remember at the end of the year I felt like I needed the kind of guy who is a complete ace and could do some complete games with high strikeouts, etc.

That said, I'd love to be talked out of taking a pitcher. LOL Below are the top offensive players from last year. care to compare those with the pitching stats and then make a suggestion on who I should take with my 4th pick. Thanks. WHIR!

By the way, it's scary that Juan Pierre was the 13th highest scoring offensive player in my league.

Pujols, Albert 1B STL
873.5

Bautista, Jose LF TOR
825.0

Gonzalez, Carlos LF COL
815.0

Cabrera, Miguel 1B DET
811.0

Votto, Joey 1B CIN
788.0

Crawford, Carl LF BOS
787.0

Cano, Robinson 2B NYY
774.5

Holliday, Matt LF STL
736.0

Teixeira, Mark 1B NYY
725.5

Braun, Ryan LF MIL
721.5

Hamilton, Josh CF TEX
716.5

Konerko, Paul 1B CHW
710.5

Pierre, Juan LF CHW
706.5
