Hi guys,

I just took over a league that I have been playing in for a number of years. We have had trouble in the past getting everyone to pay on time. I decided this year that we were going to penalize teams for late payment. My idea was to dock 5 fantasy points per day that they did not pay starting on opening day. The problem is that we decided to move to ROTO scoring, so, obviously, this penalty structure won't work.

Any ideas on how to develop a penalty for a ROTO league. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

In future years you pay before you draft or you find new owners; the bigger the in-season penalty the less likely you are to get paid at all.

I agree with Fast Dogs. You can make the penalty as big as you want, but the idea is to get the money, not penalize a team. I would make the deadline a week before the draft. That way if someone doesn't pay you have time to find a replacement. Stick to that and you will never have a problem.

why not make it a cash penalty.......people owe an extra 10-20% for late payments. This would have the added bonus of increasing the prize pool.

If you can't get the original cash amount from them, what are the odds they will give you a cash penalty................

I have this same problem every year, its usually the in-season pick up fees (avg $100 per team) that dont get paid until Jan or Feb when i threaten to give their team away. So this year im doing something different, If anyone hasen't paid in full by opening day I will lock their team down. They will still get stats but they cannont do anything except view their team, If during the season they get more than $50 in fees built up their team will be locked down. Time can only see if this will work.

Locking a team is a good idea, but it can backfire. They guy can just quit and you still don't get paid. What about collecting a "deposit" on the transaction fees. Everyone has to pay an average of what they are before the draft. If they over pay, a refund is coming. This way the league always gets it money.
