Keeper league who do I take?

Postby cainfan » Tue Mar 22, 2011 10:43 am

I am in a 10 team roto keeper league that uses R/HR/RBI/SB/OBP/K for cats. I have McCann, Teix, Phillips, Kemp, Pence, Dunn protected (also have Lester and Felix so SP is set). I am trying to decide which of these 4 best fits my team (I feel that I am weak in SB and OBP and high in Ks) - Rios, BJ Upton, Victorino, Ichiro. I have the 4th pick in my draft and there is a chance that 1-2 of these will be taken so could you please rank the 4? Also any thoughts on Victorino's value now that Utley is hurt (higher or lower than before)? Thanks!

Looks good. I think Rios is the best across the board contributor, Upton the highest reward, and with Ichiro you know exactly what your getting.

I agree in overall value but which fit my need best? Upton looks like he will cripple me in Ks. Victorino has a few less SBs than Ichiro but more R, RBI, HR probably. I was leaning Rios, Vic, Ichiro, Upton. Am I crazy?

not at all man. You're absolutely right about Upton, those K's are a big downside. Victorino could very well go 15/30. just comes down to opinion and what you prefer to address need wise.

Yeah, I think all the people who put Upton at the top are overlooking the K cat. Dunn's OBP seems headed toward a decline, and he and Kemp are huge KO liabilities. I'd actually rank them this way:

Ichiro- You know he's finishing the year over .300. Whether he swipes 40 bags is debatable, but I bet he'll get more than either Rios or Victorino.
Victorino- If you want a little more power at the expense of AVG. More upside than Ichiro, but I'm really worried about Philly's offense.
Rios- He's fine. Not great. Fine. I think 2010 was his career year and he'll regress a bit (read: fewer SB's)
Upton- K problems. Only hit 20 HR once. He's basically a 1-cat guy. Let someone else burn their pick on him.

Good points! I am torn on the Ichiro, Vic, Rios. I really have no idea how many SBs each have.

Rios attempted more SBs last yr than any previous one (48). Plus he will be hitting behind Dunn and Konerko so he will have tons a chances to steal. However his OBP is about 335.

Vic will not be hitting first or second, not sure how that affects his SBs but I doubt he gets over 30. However his OBP is typically 350 and he has the fewest Ks of the bunch.

Ichiro is solid but his R, HR, RBI are SO low. I am not sure how great his OBP will be and i would say hes right around 35 SBs.

Ultimately it is between Rios and Vic I think, its just a matter of picking the right one for this yr. My gut says that Rios will have the most SBs and prob the most R+RBI of the lot so he seems like the best value.
