Keepers?

Postby khabibul35 » Sun Mar 20, 2011 5:05 pm

I entered a league that had 5 dead teams and we decided to pool the players and redraft. I have pick number 2 and these players to choose from. Currently, this is my preference for the following players:

1) Choo, Shin-Soo 2012 RF
2) McCutchen, Andrew 2012 CF
3) Bautista, Jose 2013 3B, RF
4) Lee, Cliff 2012 SP
5) Posey, Buster 2013 C, 1B

One unique thing about this league is that you get to keep players for 4 years max, with them getting thrown back into the pool after that. The years on the right indicate when the last year of the contract is. So, I could get 2 years of Choo or McCutchen or 3 years of Jose Bautista.

I know Bautista is going higher than those 2 guys in a lot of leagues, but he might be a flash in the pan. On the other hand, I could keep him for 3 years!

What do you guys think? How would you rank these players considering the following league settings for roto:

Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), On-base Percentage (OBP)
Wins (W), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)

I like Choo , Mccutchen and Lee here. Do not think you can go wrong with any of the 3 and it really comes down to who you like more. Posey would be next and would be an OK pick but the other 3 are just safer picks imo. I would leave Bautista for someone else.

I would take AM, but Choo is right there.

Agreed, I give McCutchen a slight edge as the pick here, but you can't go wrong with Choo either.

Could we have been more wrong?

I wound up getting Choo with the #2, and flipped him for Carl Crawford. But man... Bautista was the guy to have gotten.

Who went 1?
Bautista has exceded everyones expectations.
AM is a stud.
The DUI has hampered Choo according to Choo.
Hard to predict personal problems.
I would still be very happy with Crawford, Lee, AM.

I like JoBa the most here, with McCutcheon in 2nd by a good margain. I don't know why you wouldn't want JoBa here since you have him for 3 years and the other guys for only 2, as he should remain highly productive for the next 2-3 years. I wouldn't call you an idiot for taking McCutcheon but I don't know why you would pass on Bautista.
