Zimmerman or Youkilis

Postby bobnerns » Wed Mar 16, 2011 4:15 pm

Kevin Youkilis is listed as a first baseman by ESPN, but obviously he'll be drafted to potentially fill the 3B spot when he gets eligibility soon after the season starts.

In my league, I am targetting a third baseman with my second pick and it will likely come down to Ryan Zimmerman or Kevin Youkilis. Who would you rather have? Zimm obviously has plenty of upside, but his surrounding lineup may make it difficult to get the runs and RBIs someone on Boston could get. Alternatively, Youk has battled some injury problems lately.

ESPN projected stats (R/RBI/HR/SB/AVG)
Zimmerman - 95/30/95/4/.301
Youkilis - 102/30/102/6/.311

Clearly all projected stats lean toward Youkilis, but who would you take?

I'm not a huge fan of Zim, but his upside is higher than Youk's. In a vacuum I would take Zimmerman first.

I agree that this is an extremely difficult question. I would argue that Youk's upside is just as hight as Zimmerman. While Youk is unlikely to top out in the mid 30s in HR, his counting numbers and average should all be better than Zimm's (assuming he's healthy). That being said, in the first few rounds I think you want to play it safe and Zimm is the safer pick. Who are you targeting in the first round and why are you so set on a specific positon in round 2? I'd probably just go for the the best available there.

I actually think the opposite as far as upside. I'm Youk can stay healthy I think the can produce numbers Zimmerman can't touch. Zimmerman is the safer pick IMO.

Very tough choice, but i think they are both just as injury prone, possibly Zimmerman more. Youk did sit out the 2nd half of the season cuz of a freak-like thumb injury, but Zimm has been battling shoulder and other injuries for a while not, plus Youk's lineup is a baggillion times better. I choose Youk because the power numbers will be similar, but I'd say Youk will score a ton more runs.

I take Youk rather easily over Zimm this year. Mainly because of the situation that he's in.

I see a healthy Youk having better R/RBI totals, but could see Zimmerman having a marginally better HR tally. I'd give the edge to Zimmerman.

I give Zimmerman the slight edge over Youk.

It's close, but I'd give the edge to Youk, if for no other reason than that he'll have eligibility at two positions. Over the course of the season, you never know when that might come in handy.

I'd go with Zimmerman as well.
