I'm playing in a 12-team league. Standard 5*5 category.
Here's my roster:
C Soto 1B Fielder 2B Beckham 3B Sandoval SS A. Ramirez OF Braun OF J. Upton OF Werth Util Youkilis Util Markakis BN Lind BN Coghlan
SP Liriano SP Oswalt RP Putz RP Hanrahan P Bumgarner P Nolasco P Kuroda P Floyd BN Ian Kennedy BN J. Zimmermann BN Uehara
I've analyzed my roster and I've come to the conclusion that my team will be lacking speed as well as runs.
Should I look on the WW (Coco Crisp, Jennings, Fowler, N. Morgan) or should I try to trade a guy like Werth (whose value is pretty high) + Oswalt for Crawford?
I think I have good starting pitchers and am confident I'll be able to find more throughout the season.
I would pull the trigger. You're getting the best player in the deal. I think Werth is going to have a down year. Giving up Oswalt kinda sucks but I would do it.
League Setup: 13 Team Points League 6 Hitters 3 Pitchers (Positions don't matter) 1B = 1, 2B = 2, 3B = 3, HR = 4, RBI = 1 Win = 12, Save = 5
I think you're giving up a bit too much in this deal. I agree that you're getting the best player in the deal, losing Oswalt is a tough blow to your pitching staff. If you could get a mid-range SP in return along with Crawford I'd definitely go for it.
I think it's a pretty decent deal for you. You need some more SB's and Crawford will deliver them for you while not hurting your power and rbi's tooooo much... Oswalt is a tough blow to your staff though, but i think if you can get a decent year out of Zimmerman you won't miss Oswalt too much.
I absolutely would do this deal. Crawford is in a different league than Werth(check out his numbers outside of Philly). It'll sting a little losing Oswalt but you can use a guy like Upton to go get a better pitcher than Oswalt PLUS a pretty good outfielder. Think Jimenez and Rasmus or something along those lines. Like flipping houses. Profit Profit Profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you trade Werth, you lose roughly 15 SBs, while gaining probably 45 SBs with Crawford for a net gain of just 30. With Nyjer Morgan you would more then make up the net difference, Coco Crisp, even in an injury year will likely match the loss. Jennings and Fowler will likely get 20 SBs with upside to get more. I would stick to the WW.
Thanks for all your responses, very helpful. I'm going to follow JRM4833's advice, meaning I'll try to trade Werth + Oswalt for De La Rosa + Crawford.
The problem with the WW is that I won't have Crisp or whoever else in my lineup everyday, as opposed to Crawford, since they're not contributing much in other categories. Plus to obtain Crawford's SB production, I'll need Werth + WW players, thus 2 players who will produce less than for example Crawford + Markakis.
Do it. Who knows how Werth will do outside of CItizens w/o Howard, Utley around him, and I think Lind bounces back at bit, at least to help make up some of the power you'd lose in Werth. And if even one of Kennedy/Zimmerman steps up, that'll help replace Oswalt (who's no spring chicken).
