Solid Keepers, Who do I Target in Draft?

Postby cannman915 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 4:22 pm

My kepeer league fantasy draft is coming up, and I'm trying to figure out who, or more likely what stats/positions, I should target in the draft. Our league keeps 4 players (1 must be a pitcher), who are your first 4 picks of the draft (i.e. draft starts in round 5 after all keepers accounted for). Settings are 10 teams, H2H, daily lineups, 6x6 (added OPS and Quality Starts), positions C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, UTIL, 2 SP, 3 RP, 3 P, 8 Bench. As I won the league last year, I will be drafting 10th (last) in the 5th round.

My keepers are: Tulo, Braun, DWright, CC

Looking at who's not being kept, I expect my first two draft picks (back to back) in the 5th/6th round to be comewhere around these players:

Uggla, McCutcheon, VMart, Ubaldo, Ichiro, Beltre, Morneau, McCann, Werth, Rollins, Ethier, Weeks, Josh Johnson...and then everyone else (noone else below them on MDP file from this forum is kept).

Judging from my base, where should I look to draft first? Thanks for the help, I will return the favor.

Of the ones you listed I would take:

McCutchen
Morneau
Uggla
McCann

In that order.
League Setup:
13 Team Points League
6 Hitters 3 Pitchers (Positions don't matter)
1B = 1, 2B = 2, 3B = 3, HR = 4, RBI = 1
Win = 12, Save = 5

I agree 100%. Quick note -- don't get forced into drafting a catcher this early unless they are lasting too long to resist. There are plenty of catchers further back who will give you slightly less production at a much lower cost. That's just my opinion, but I feel pretty strongly that Napoli in the 12th is much more cost effective than VMart in the 5th.

Help please?

So my draft is tonight, and I've been looking at who I have vs. who's available, and I have my picks pretty much narrowed down. Here's my main options. Our draft starts in the 5th round (4 keepers), and i have the last pick of that round (back to back picks).

C: VMart, McCann
1B: Morneau, Morales, Carlos Lee, Konerko, Lind, Butler, Sandoval
2B: Uggla (doubt he'll still be available), Weeks
OF: Shin-Soo Choo, McCutchen, Ichiro, Pence, Rios, Ellsbury
SP: Josh Johnson, Hamels, Ubaldo, Weaver, Liriano, Price

I listed a bunch of players as some of these likely won't be available by the 10th pick. I omitted a few players I know won't be there when I pick but will be drated in the first (5th) round (Hamilton, Pedroia, Cruz, Bautista).

Right now I think I'm hoping for McCutchen/Choo and VMart/McCann (maybe Uggla if he falls), but here are my two other considerations:

- Should I grab either Kendry or Morneau for 1B here instead before everybody else picks? 7 of the 10 teams (my team is one of the 3 who doesn't) already are keeping a 1B so I'm thinking I can wait until the 7th/8th round
- I have no idea what I should do about starting pitching (I currently have CC). Should I grab one of the above SP with one of these 2 picks before it goes all the way around and everybody else starts to take pitching or focus on hitting?

Thanks for the help! I will return the favor today.

If that's who is available I'm taking McCutchen and Morneau.
