I was asked friday night to take over a previous team in a roto wmd league. i told them yes not know what i was getting myself into. 5 keepers 19 man squad, 7 pitchers, 3 bench, and then regular positions including UTIL.
Here is my squad from last year:
Buster Posey, SF C, 1B Billy Butler, KC 1B, DH Neil Walker, Pit 2B Pedro Alvarez, Pit 3B Alexei Ramirez, CWS SS Carlos Gonzalez, Col OF Adam Dunn, CWS 1B Angel Pagan, NYM OF Shin-Soo Choo, Cle OF Hanley Ramirez, Fla SS
Zack Greinke, Mil SP Jonathan Papelbon, Bos RP Brian Wilson, SF Garza, ChC SP Dan Haren, LAA SP John Axford, Mil RP Colby Lewis, Tex SP Brett Anderson, Oak SP James Shields, TB SP
. Thats my team..... Who should i keep? i was thinking Zack Greinke, jon papelbon, hanley ramirez, shin-soo choo, and carlos ganzalez.
You've actually got great keepers going into next year!
CarGo, Greinke, and Hanley are no-brainers. Beyond that, it's a bit of a toss-up/personal preference:
Choo- OF is suprisingly thin, and he'll give you 20/20/.290 if not 25/25/.300. Posey- Great young catcher, though the position is actually fairly deep this year Wilson- Elite closer, possibly the best fantasy RP in baseball. Unfortunately, most people will tell you "don't keep closers/pay for saves".
Personally, I'd keep Wilson. I'm not generally a fan of keeping closers, but there are plenty of teams who are heading into the season without a solid closer, and I'd be totally happy to have a guy who's a lock for 40+ saves with great peripherals. I'd also keep Choo, and let someone else reach for Posey.
Not a huge fan of the last 3 personally. Don't like picking high/keeping closers. Greinke seems to overrated to me since the trade. I would take Alvarez if you don't think you'll be able to get anyone better at third in the draft.
League Setup: 13 Team Points League 6 Hitters 3 Pitchers (Positions don't matter) 1B = 1, 2B = 2, 3B = 3, HR = 4, RBI = 1 Win = 12, Save = 5
So far i have come to conclusion on 4, Hanley ramirez, Carlos gonzalez, Shin-soo Choo Buster posey
now im still debating between Greinke and wilson i think wilson may do better than greinke for me. first off greinke is hurt, plus moved of to NL and wont know how he does. if i keep greinke though since i have a Injured reserve spot i move grienke there and just pick up another guy? so instead of 19 guys i would get 20 when done.

The move to the NL should only help Greinke. He'll also have a much improved offense behind him to give him run support. I can't bring myself to keep a closer with only five slots available, especially when you have an option like Greinke.
Basically, you absolutely need to keep Car-Go, Choo, and Hanley.
You need to pick two out of Dunn, Grinkie, Wilson, Alvarez and Posey. It would help to know the settings. Certain settings will really bump up the value of guys. For example if your league counts both holds and saves then RP value is diluted and Wilson should come off the list.
Personally, I'm taking Posey and Alvarez there. It gives you a really solid offensive core to build around, and you have to like their ages. I would consider Grinkie, too, but with only 5 keepers I'm not keeping a pitcher unless it's someone who can legitimately anchor a rotation like Felix or Halladay. I would understand taking Grinkie though. I would not keep Wilson. Even for how good he was last year, relief pitchers are the most fungible players AND their value tends to fluctuate the most year to year.
