Should I trade Jeter for Chris Carpenter?

I am good with that trade. I think Carp has a better chance to have a top 10 type year than Jeter does.

I'm not really a Carpenter fan at all and would prefer a Hanson/Gallardo type instead. I actually think Jeter is undervalued and you might be able to squeeze a bit more value. It's a pretty even deal, however, and if you feel you need the SP boost right away, I'd do it when you have Hanley on board. Personally, I would hold out.
