Lee or JJ

Postby warner892001 » Sun Mar 13, 2011 11:02 am

I traded for Cliff Lee in my keeper league. I have another team interested in Lee and is willing to give me Josh Johnson straight up.

If I do the deal I get the younger player but less wins and Lee seems fairly solid. Im really torn. Help?

I'd rather have Lee, at least for this year.

What are your pitching categories?

Johnson has a sore arm/shoulder, but Lee had fatigue at end of last year and logged a whole bunch of innings the last 2 seasons. As he ages, will catch up. For the long haul, JJ may be better, but I'd be very leery of him. I bet you could get a Lincecum, Kershaw or Verlander and be more satisfied at year's end.

Our pitching categories are ERA Whip wins strikeouts and saves. Just a standard system. Ive had other teams propose me offers for lee and the pitcher they are giving back to me is kyle drabek or colby lewis or brett cecil. I want a comparable pitcher back not some 3rd starter projected to have a career year. I think the other teams in my league are undervaluing him and maybe i am slightly overvaluing him

I have no problems keeping him but my team is younger and so getting a younger will help me in the long term where as i feel if i keep lee im in a sort of win now scenario.

If I thought they would both pitch 33 games, Then I'd say JJ. But that's usually not the case, so I say lee.

Maybe you go after a younger pitcher, like a Helickson, Price or Hanson etc. Something you can do is target someone who wants to win NOW and possibly grab a draft pick, maybe next year or year after.
