The bats finally woke up in St. Pete as the Rays knocked of defending AL East Champion New York 8-3. Greg Vaughn and Travis Lee both Homered and Rocco Baldelli went 2 for 4 with a 3 RBI double in the 6th. Vaughn was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Carl Crawford went 2 for 4 and swiped his fouth base of the spring.
Starter Nick bierbrodt went 3 innings, giving up 1 UER. He walked 3, struck out 3 and allowed 1 hit. Lance Carter (1-0) pitched the 6th for the win.
Conteras (0-1) took the loss for the Yanks. In pitching three innings he gave up 7 ER on 7 hits, including Vaughn and Lee's home runs.
The Rays go to 2-7 on the spring. Next up is Detroit on monday.
