Which of the following players would you draft with your 2nd pick assuming you took MCab in the first round? this is for a H2h league where the hitting cats are R, HR, RBI, SB, H, OBP ...(so avg is a non-factor)
I'd go with Hamilton if you're comfortable with the possibility of an injury every year. Pedroia/Kemp is who I would choose next. no need for another 1b, when you can pick up a solid one later in the draft. Also, I usually pass on 3B and pick up McGehee later on
easy, teixera. I'm at 3 also go power power. Look their is no way to get HR and RBI later, hell if Prince is still their on the backside I draft him too
on another note, does anyone NOT take Cabrera with the 3rd overall pick? (assuming he is there. the guy with #2 already said hes taking hanley)
any argument for taking Longoria, Tulo, or Votto instead? i just have a bad feelig that MCab cant put the bottle down and gets into more trouble, or a judge orders him to rehab or something causing him to miss significant playing time

I started a draft the day after the arrest, and I went Votto at pick 3. My issue is that I have Votto and Miggy ranked VERY close so that chance of a minor distraction sent me to Votto instead. Now I can't call anyone who says Miggy is the right choice an idiot because I still like him alot, but that "chance" is what sent me to Votto.
On another note I'd stay away from Hamilton. The risk is too high for my taste. I would go Tex. There is a huge shortage of power bats out there right now and if you can get 2 big bats I take them all day and twice on Sunday.

If i dont take MCab first, I may not take votto either. Im trying to decide if its its better to lock up a very scarce position (SS or 3B with Tulo or Longoria) and then still get an elite 1B with my 2nd pick, or take 2 elite 1B with my first 2 picks. If I do the latter my lineup would be pretty restricted bc we have only 1 utilty slot
My other issue is that this is the first year of a keeper league, and each team can only keep 1 player from the first round per yr. So should I be thinking about the fact that I can take the best overall player at position A but possibly sacrifice a small amount of production, vs the 2nd or 3rd best player at position B and get a little more guaranteed production, although at a deeper position where the 5th-7th best options are still very very good.

well its not ANY factor in this league. we use OBP and Hits. AVG is not even a category. youre right in that Prince does have a much better OBP than Teix tho
Im beginning to think i might not even necessarily take MCab with the #3 pick, as i think i might be able to build a stronger core of keepers using a different draft strategy; I outlined several scenarios here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=423839
