I just saw the prime minister of Japan say it was a hydrogen explosion and that the public is in no danger of any radioactivity leaking out at the moment. That's a big relief for now.

It's scary to say that I'm starting to hope their containment facility is okay, because a meltdown seems almost inescapable at this moment. :-/

The toll from a magnitude-8.9 earthquake in Japan could exceed 10,000 in the hardest-hit prefecture of Miyagi alone, police said on Sunday, as other officials tried to reassure the public that reactors at two damaged nuclear power plants posed no immediate danger.

Not sounding good for that second nuclear facility.

They also upgraded the official size of the quake to 9.0. :-/
