Keeper Predicament

Postby TMonay777 » Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:10 pm

I'm in a 12-team, ESPN standard scoring, head to head, snake draft league. You can get 1 point for beating your weekly opponent in each of 5 offensive categories: Runs, HRs, RBIs, Steals, and Avg (5 pitching categories as well but don't worry about that because I'm not keeping pitchers). We get three keepers heading into this season. You don't get penalized for keeping a higher ranked keeper versus a lower one who might give you better value. You can keep a keeper for 3 years max but I'm not putting too much weight on that factor.

My offense was stacked last year so I'm struggling to whittle my team down to 3 keepers. Who should I keep between Buster Posey, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jose Bautista, Matt Holliday, and Jason Heyward?

(I'm thinking about staying away from Utley because of his injury problems this spring)

Man, tough call. A good problem to have though. I'd avoid Utley altogether. They're talking about possible surgery now. If I had to pick, I'd say Posey (position scarcity), Holliday (proven track record) and either Howard or Heyward.

I think you have to go with pure value and go Howard, Holliday, and Heyward.

Posey is a great keeper and not one I'd like to pass up, but if it's between Howard and Posey there's no real question.
