Roster Size Question

A group of friends and I are doing a H2H, 7-Day Set Roster, 5X5 Most Categories League, with Auction Bids on Sunday before the week starts, and we're doing it this way for purely maintenance reasons, since we all have incredibly busy schedules, and we agreed to lessen the burden of setting rosters daily.

Anyway, it looks like there are only going to be 8 of us in the league, and I'm operating under the assumption that we are going to be using both AL and NL players.

So, I'm curious how large you all would set rosters in a similar situation? How many starters and how many bench players? What positions? I'm open to all suggestions.

I'm concerned if there is too much available in terms of free agents, it could really water down the importance of the draft. Should I even be worried about this? If I should, would making rosters larger help? As I stated previously, we're doing FAAB with a purse of $100 per team, and a minimum bid of $1.

8 team mixed league, you really want to fill in those "extra" slots:

CI
INF
2nd C
4th/5th OF

Balance out your pitching staff accordingly. Fill in the rest with bench spots.

Thanks! I do want to encourage trading. So, right now I have:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, OF, OF, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, P, P, P, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, BE, BE, BE = 25 Roster Spots x 8 Teams = 200 Players

How about if I add 10 Spots Per Team for a total of 280; What if I add these:

IF, IF, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, P, SP, RP, BE

Too much in one area? Too little? More/Less Pitching? I suppose I could add more BE spots too. Remember we're only going to be setting rosters once a week.

I agree with that, but unfortunately it's just not an option in this particular situation.

I think 8 OF slots is too deep relative to your other positions- that's 64 outfielders, not counting guys you slot in at UTIL. I really urge you to use rookies and cream's MDP sheet as a guide here. Take a look at the guys you'd be filling in at the end.

You're also very bat-heavy; 19 offensive slots vs. 12 pitchers. Especially in category-based scoring, you want to balance that out more. Here's what I'd go with:

C/C/1B/2B/3B/SS/MI/CI/OF/OF/OF/OF/OF/U/U (15 bat slots)
SP/SP/SP/SP/SP/SP/RP/RP/RP/RP/P/P/P/P/P (15 pitcher slots)
5 Bench slots
