Help with Pitching System

Postby jonboycubs » Tue Mar 08, 2011 5:23 pm

I am looking to make my pitching system right for my league. It is 16 teams H2H points and 10 spot for pitchers. Right now I have it set at 10 Pitching slots, not specified reliever or starter. These are the options I am considering...

8 starters, 2 relievers
7 starters, 3 relievers
6 starters, 4 relievers
5 starters, 5 relievers

4 starters, 4 relievers, and 2 pitcher
5 starters, 3 relievers, and 2 pitcher
4 starters, 3 relievers, and 3 pitcher, this is the one I am leaning towards. Any opinions would be greatley appreciated. My scoring system link is posted below if that is needed. This is my first time really committing myself to making a kick ass league, as I did a 6 team league last year just to get the feel for it, Thanks again, and if I am able to help you I will.

I'm the commissioner for a 16-team H2H league and we use 10 pitchers. Five SP, 3 RP, and 3 P. Our scoring categories are Quality Starts, Strikeouts, WHIP, ERA, Saves and Holds. You need at least two quality relievers and two quality set-up men to compete in Saves and Holds. That gives you two pitching positions to use strategically week-to-week depending on your opponent and your roster makeup.

Thanks guys for all your help, I went with 4 starters, 3 relievers, and 3 pitchers, I am starting to think that setup men will be considered irrelevent. My scoring goes like this:

innings pitched 18
wins 25
saves 15
strikeouts 8
Walks -3
Appearences 5
hit batsmen -3
wild pitches -2
pick offs 10
complete games 50
no hitters 100
earned runs -10
loss -15
blown save -15
hits allowed -5
shutouts 75
batters faced 2
homeruns -10
balks -5
holds 10
quality starts 10
perfect games 150

I would agree, nobody will want to draft set-up men under your proposed scoring system. Starters appear to be the way to go.

They could add up points in stikeouts, appearences, pickoffs along with holds, as they do appear more than starters, all though are not in as long. Maybe they could help if they have week pitching. Anyway this is the first year, so there will be growing pains. I will figure it out as it goes along, and make it better next year, thanks again

Actually, I think your scoring system is fine and I would be curious to hear how it plays out for you over the course of the year. If I was a team owner in your league, I would target power pitchers because of the points gained for innings pitched, quality starts, wins, batters faced and strikeouts. I might finish last in your league with that strategy :-D. But, at first glance, that's where I would spend my pitching dollars Cheers.

That is the link to my scoring overall, in case you were curious, I got batters and pitchers as close to even as I could. Was going to drop innings pitched, but then batters and a great advantage. Too bad you did'nt hit me up last night I had to replace an owner. If I get another opening and I might I can keep you in mind

Thanks but I need to pass. I can only focus on one league at a time, but I truly appreciate the offer. ;-D When do you draft? I would be curious to see the results.
