Fielder/BJ Upton for Holliday/Ellsbury, WHIR

Postby sixer03fan » Tue Mar 08, 2011 4:01 pm

Hey guys, I am in a keeper league, we can keep 3 guys, but only 2 batters. I have a lot of power on my offense, but definitely need help with batting average. I think this deal would be beneficial to me, because I don't lose too much power, I gain batting average, and I pretty much even out on everything else most likely.

The only reason I am hesitant is because it is a keeper league. Fielder is 27, while Holliday is 31. However, if I had to guess now, I would probably keep Miggy Cabrera and Justin Upton or Stanton, rather than Fielder or Holliday anyways. Let me know what you think.

I give: Fielder, BJ Upton
I receive: M. Holliday, Ellsbury

Here's my roster:

3 player keeper league, daily transactions
12 team, h2h. YAHOO league.
hits, runs, hr, rbi, avg, stls
wins, k's, era, whip, k/9, saves

c. Govany Soto
1b. Miguel Cabrera
2b. Brian Roberts
3b. Kevin Youkilis
ss. Asdrubal Cabrera
of. Justin Upton
of. BJ Upton
of. Mike Stanton
u. Prince Fielder

sp. Justin Verlander
sp. Dan Haren
sp. Jered Weaver
sp. Jeremy Hellickson
sp. Wandy Rodriguez
sp. Ricky Nolasco
sp. Javier Vazquez

rp. Jonathon Broxton
rp. JJ Putz
rp. Frank Francisco
rp. Brandon Lyon
rp. Aroldis Chapman

Thanks in advance, leave a link and I'll be sure to respond!

Personally, I would not do the deal. You are going to basically be doing a wash with Fielder and Holliday, giving up average for HRs. If you were not as balanced as you were and need the AVG more than HRs then that would be a different matter, but your team is quite balanced. If anything, you are more light on HRs. Regarding Upton and Ellsbury, Ellsbury make be more likely to bat .300 and could snag 20 more than Upton but Upton could also realize his potential, hit .300, and slap 30 HRs on the top. More than anything, Ellsbury questionable injury record makes me say this is a lose for you should you do the trade.

So you're talking about trading for a 2012 keeper? If so, I wouldn't do this deal. In fact, I wouldn't do it anyway. Ellsbury is basically a super-high-priced Rajai Davis and Holliday isn't worth more than Fielder. So you lose in value in the trade.

As for the keepers, why not deal Fielder and Upton for a proven ace like Lincecum/Felix? This way you can keep MCab/Upton/Linecum(or Felix) and not worry about shaving your batters down for keepers.

So in short, no - I wouldn't trade Fielder/BJ for Holliday/Ells.

No deal, with Fielder your team is nice and balanced, without him your too top heavy and downgrading in a couple of categories with this deal, Pass :-t

I would hold tight. I want to see what Upton does this year and whether he can get that avg up a bit. On top of that I think Fielder will have a better year as well. I like your team now and more than if you made this trade.

I agree with the rest. I'd stand pat. And like you mentioned, Fielder is 27 to Holliday's 31...so even if you don't keep either, Fielder has a better chance to produce longer IMO. and I really don't like Ellsbury, like one poster said, he's basically a glorified Rajai Davis. not to mentionn you're essentially trading for a wash. I'd target somewhere else where you might not be as strong if you really weant to dump Fielder/Upton
