Keeper Question: Kershaw, Hamels, or Price

Postby Moss84 » Tue Mar 08, 2011 11:49 am

12 team H2h Mixed League
$1000 cap and draft 24 players: 15 hitters and 9 Pitchers (7 starters / 2 Relievers)

Pitcher Scoring = (wins and K's most important)
10 pts a win, -5 a loss, 1 per K , 5 pts for CG, 5 pts for Shutout - NO ERA, WHIP etc.

How would you rank my keeper Pitcher options ?

Pitchers:
Clayton Kershaw - $85
Cole Hamels - $75
David Price - $50 - Rays loss of Crawford/Pena/ Soriano - less wins for Price ?
Ted Lilly - $15
Brett Myers - $15 - was great last season and potential trade to Yankees

I'll answer yours.

Yea for that price i'd go with Price. I'm 99% sure Myers isn't going to leave the Astros anytime soon, he just signed a contract with them and they want him as their 'ace' for the time being. The Yankees are in need, but i doubt the 'stros give him up.

For those prices and your scoring cat's, I like Lilly at $15, he will KO 170, 14-15 wins and maybe a CC or 2. Price will not go the distance, thus no CC and will only KO 180 with 16-17 wins in the mean AL East. Thus for me the value play is Lilly over all the rest.

I like Price here. He's cheaper, and potentially better than both Kershaw and Hamels. After that, I would go Lilly or Myers. I wouldn't spend big on two pitchers, so Price then Lilly or Myers. If you put a gun to my head, I'd say go with Lilly as your second option. Good luck.

I rank 'em:

Hamels
Lilly
Kershaw
Price
Myers

I'd be tempted to pay the big bucks and keep both Hamels and Kershaw, and then keep Lilly as insurance. You're talking about two premier young SPs with high K totals. Go for it.
