I would probably pass on both HDTV's.
I worked at Target (during a long stretch of trying to find a real job - no offense to Target employees) and we left our TV's on 18 hrs a day. The Element and Westinghouse TV's were the first to begin freezing on a regular occasion.

Add the "[]=679 to the end of the link to filter by HDTV's. 5 Thumbs up is the highest a thread can achieve, and thus it is a great deal.
A few of their top deals:
55" Sony LED 3D HDTV for $1399 from Fry's. You're paying for the 3D feature here, so if you don't want a 3D you should be able to find a similar TV for $100-200 less easy.
40" Phillips HDTV from Target for under $300. Smaller than what you're looking for, but if you can find one it's a good deal.
47" LG w/ Wifi and 3D from Frys for $799. Not too bad. LG makes a pretty good TV.
You get what you pay for though.
