T.Hudson FOR S.Marcum (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Mon Mar 07, 2011 3:49 pm

I am in a deep 15 team league, where we protect 12 players annually on 3 year maximum contracts. Its an Auction League. I would like to strengthen my Rotation after I lost Wainwright $18 keeper, for the year. We need to draft 8 pitchers (combination of relievers or starters) during the auction. I already have 3 kept so I would be looking at 5 pitchers to go.

Currently am keeping the following three
R.Oswalt @$15 (2 yrs left)
M.Latos @$1 (2 yrs left)
T.Hudson @$3 (going into his last year of his deal)

I TRADE:
SP - T.Hudson $3(3) (going into his final year of the $3 contract)

I GET:
SP - S.Marcum $6(3) (going into his final year of the $6 contract)

Is this a pretty even deal? I just really like Marcum's upside flipping to the NL Central, both pitchers have come back from Tommy John surgeries which seems to be a normal thing for pitchers this day and age.

PLEASE ADVISE.
Thanks

I'd take that deal. I like Marcum a lot more than Hudson.

Keep Hudson. They are equal pitchers and Hudson is 3 bucks cheaper. Save the money and use it elsewhere. How dare you discredit the Braves ace, for shame you experts. I know the move to NL central will help, but I still think they will be close to the same. If you had more than one year, Marcum WOUDL be the obvious choice, but for one year I'd stick with Huddy and save the 3 bucks.

I'd go with Marcum too. For only $3 more, you're getting the better pitcher this year. Marcum had two straight years of posting a 1.15 WHIP in the AL East and he does have better K upside than Hudson.

2010 Hudson: BABIP .249, K/9 5.47, LOB% 81.2 %
He got lucky with W, WHIP and ERA last year and I'm not expecting a repeat. I might be willing to take a gamble on him if he could strike anyone out but that isn't happening either. I'm steering clear of Hudson.

I also like Marcum better. He started to come into his own last year and will now be in a weaker hitting division as well.
