It's not crazy. If you really want Votto you should take him. He's not gonna be around after pick #6 so this is your shot at getting him. Don't draft a team you don't want! He's certainly a first rounder, and although Hanley has been a more proven first rounder, his lack of motivation in Florida scares me a little.
If you were looking to take Fielder, Howard, or Teix at pick #2 then yes, that's a crazy move. Votto or Miggy, not so crazy
I don't think Votto at #2 is optimal value, but Votto's still really good, so it's not the end of the world. I'd take both Hanley and Miggy over him (in that order) and would at least consider taking Lorgoria over him as well (call them a tier). I'll take Votto over Tulo though.
Just started a 10-team Roto Keeper and Votto was taken #2 behind Pujols.
I'm a Reds fan and love the guy, so I'm not going to bad-mouth him. My only concern is that he only has one year hitting over 30 HR: 24/25/37.
Whereas, Miggy has 7 years of 33/33/26/34/37/34/34/38.
I would just rather invest #2 in that track record. But as many have said, you want to enjoy the team you have, so Votto isn't the worst thing in the world.
