Hey guys - gotta have my keepers in by Sunday. I know I'm already keeping Hanley and Wright. I'm in a bind over my final keep, though. We keep 3 guys per year for a 3 year max for each player. Here's an arguement I can make for each one:
Uggla - Crazy power for a 2B; Lots of BB; thin position; in a better lineup this year Dunn - Could hit 50 HR this year/Will prob have more RBI with better lineup/BB and OPS machine V-Mart - 2nd best catcher in thin position/Will most likely play every game as DH, C, or 1B.
Every day it seems I waver from one guy to another. Here are my categories: H, R, HR, RBI, BB, SB, BA, OPS
Wow that's a tough one. A case can be made for all three of them. Here are my thoughts
Uggla - helps across all categories except BA where I think he will regress to the mean. Last year was a bit of an abhoration, he's more of a .265 hitter as opposed to .285. HIs production comes from a thin position. Dunn - hurts BA (probably worse than Uggla) but is a stud in all other categories. Better lineup but sometimes moving from an everyday playing position to part time 1B and DH can hurt mentally. V-Mart - won't help as much in the HR/R/RBI category as the other two but it's all relative compared to other players at his position. Hitting 3rd in front of probably the best hitter in baseball not named Pujols helps. Multi-position eligible too.
I have to say I'm leaning towards Uggla just because of the lineup he's in. I think he will gel very well with the likes of Prado/Heyward/McCann and Freeman. He may very well be in for his best season yet.
Toss-up between Uggla and Dunn. I go Dunn. Sure, 1B is deeper than 2B, but as avsfan said, Dunn is great in OBP. He will get you 40 HR's and an OBP somewhere in the .380+ range. Uggla will do well, but Dunn's numbers are better and he is more of a threat, especially in HR-friendly US Cellular Field.
def a close one and either way i dont think youd be wrong. id lean dunn because of his new ballpark and ops counting as a stat. like you said dunn could hit 50 hrs this year and with hrs being at such a premium id go with dunn. 2b isnt as shallow as you might think as there are plenty of bounceback candiadates(kinsler roberts hill beckham to name a few). catcher is alittle rough after the top 5 but still a few sleepers soto, suzuki, wieters etc.
I would go with Dunn, mainly for the exact reason already given above...OPS. I would probably go with Uggla in a 5x5, but your categories align with Dunn's strenths. I like both of them better than V-Mart.
Dunn is the answer, agree almost with everything people have said above, also you will have the option of Dunn at 1b and OF so you can have that little extra bit of flexiablilty as you would with VMart. Plus many writers and analysas are saying that Dunn could go off for 50 HRs this year, so in a league that Ks dont hurt you I think you cant pass on him
