Jorge Posada worth a waiver shot?

Postby Relddem » Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:51 pm

Two catcher, five bench, 5x5 Yahoo! H2H league. I have #5 waiver priority Roster as follows:

C - Geovany Soto, Chris Iannetta
1B - Joey Votto
2B - Neil Walker (3B)
3B - David Wright
SS - Jimmy Rollins
MI - Ryan Raburn (2B,OF)
CI - Ike Davis (1B)
OF - Nelson Cruz, Shin-Soo Choo, Alex Rios, Dexter Fowler, Alex Gordon (3B)
Util - Adam Lind (1B,OF)
BN - Tsuyoshi Nishioka (2B,SS), Josh Thole (C), Brandon Belt (1B)

SP - Cole Hamels, Francisco Liriano
RP - Jonathan Broxton, Joe Nathan
P - Max Scherzer (SP), Shaun Marcum (SP), Colby Lewis (SP), Frank Francisco (RP), Jake McGee (RP)
BN - Mike Minor (SP), Homer Bailey (SP)

So I guess the question is should I drop Josh Thole for Posada? In a roto league this would probably be a no doubter, but Posada definitely as some risk and I really like the HR/RBI and AVG combo of Iannetta/Thole for my second C spot. In H2H I could see it playing really well as a matchup combo depending on what I need in a given week.

If I do try to nab Posada, do I then drop Iannetta for another 5th OF option or an eighth SP, or hold onto him and perhaps shop him after he hits a few Coors-blasts? Soto and Posada both figure to be balanced options, I won't desperately need a third catcher, though it becomes problematic if Posada gets hurt. David Murphy was also dropped by a different owner, he's probably the best OF option on the wire, as was Derek Holland, so he's probably the top choice there, though I'm also eyeing James McDonald.
