First year fantasy baseball league on Yahoo with on 2 spots remaining. This is a free site so all monies will be paid out. The entry fee will be $50 with no additional fees. Fees will be paid via http://www.leaguesafe.com. I have run football leagues for years and have used this safe/secure web-site for the last few years without any problems.
The draft will take place online on Saturday March 5th @ 2:00pm CST.
This will be a rotisserie-style 5x5 scoring league. The categories for hitters are: AVG, HR, Runs, RBI's and SB's.
The pitcher categories are: Wins, Saves, K's, ERA and Whip
All of your stats count towards the entire season. So a Homerun the first day is worth as much as the last day. You only accumulate points for players while on your roster. Once you cut a player you still get the stats while he was on your team but not any in the future. So if your Catcher starts the year 0-100 those numbers would be stuck on your team even after you cut him. Some owners last year thought that those stats would go away if you cut that player.
It doesn't matter where you are in the standings except for the final day of the season. Each team is ranked in the 10 statistical categories. Let's say we have 10 teams. The most points possible would be 100. (10 categories with 10 points max per category.) So if your team as a whole was leading in HR's you would get 10 points in that category. If you fall to second in homeruns you would get 9 points. If your team was last in Home runs you would receive 1 pt.
The standings are calculated from the total points of the 10 categories. The top team will usually have somewhere between 67-70 points. In a tougher league they may have less or they could have more in a weaker league. The standings usually change quite a bit early in the season since the stats sample is so small. A real good day by your team can make big changes in the standings. As the season progresses there will be a separation in the stats where it is harder to move up or down in the standings. Usually there are a few poor teams and a few really good teams. There are no playoffs so it isn't as exciting or nerve racking as fantasy football.
Pickups are setup to be first come first serve. If he is a current free agent he can be picked up and added to your roster immediately. If a guy is on waivers (recently cut from another team) there is a rolling waiver wire order. The person with the last pick of the draft would start the year on top of the waiver wire. Once they claim a player (that was cut from another team) they would then fall to last on waiver claims. Starting lineups are set on Monday morning. So if you pickup a guy on Wednesday, he won't be in your starting lineup until Monday's games. You would have your dropped player in your lineup until then.
Lineups need to be submitted weekly and not daily. This format is not as time consuming as most
The league is set up for 12 teams. The top 4 teams will be paid-out (50%, 25%,15%, 10%). If less then 12 teams sign up we will make adjustments to the number of teams paid out.
