9 team NL only keeper league; standard 5x5 roto; $260 budget; 12 keeper max; 23 roster positions (9 pitcher & 14 hitters including 1 utl spot);
Do I keep a $1 Seth Smith (tying up my utility slot) or keep a $36 Reyes? I have $132 tied up w/out accounting for one of these two.

Take Smith and put the money towards a power hitter, you already have Tulo at SS anyway. Thanks for the help with mine

I would go with Smith. You have Tulo already and can use the extra 35 from Reyes to spend elsewhere. Reyes is obviously valuable, especially in an NL only, but I think the value lies in Smith.
I think you'd want to keep Smith, with one caveat. You have to predict what the inflation factor is going to be post-keepers. At face value, $1 for Smith is a better deal than $36 for Reyes. What do you think Reyes is going to go for in the re-auction though?

Reyes will go for somewhere between $40-$50 with the average being $45. I'm having a much more difficult time determining Smith's auction price.
If you're starting 14 hitters, I assume you have a MI spot? I think you're pretty much on the borderline here, given inflation, although you're still going to get slightly better value from Smith relative to cost (if I had to guess).
That said, do you have any sense as to the other 2b/ss that will be kept by other teams? Since you need a 2b and a MI, you don't want to get caught with two scrubs at the bottom because everyone keeps the good middle infielders.
I think purely from a value vs. cost perspective, you should keep Smith....but....you need to try and gauge what you'll be able to get in the auction for your middle infield spots. I could see scenarios where keeping Reyes is the right play.

Yes there is a MI spot. Utley/Philips are not being kept. Uggla/Weeks/Prado/Johnson/Uribe/Walker are being kept. EY/Espinosa/Infante may be kept. Hudson/Sanchez/Hall/Schumaker are all draftable.
Based on all the comments I'm now heavily leaning toward Smith. Another wrinkle in our system is we lose the player if he goes to the AL. Well when the Mets Fail, they could ship him off in a trade -- which increases the risk of not having him for an entire season.
