Dynasty Trade CC+ for JJ,Wainwright+ WHIR

Postby Montana168 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:34 pm

It is a DYNASTY league, we keep our entire roster each year. Yahoo! Standard 5x5 H2H cats.

I have been offered this trade:

I Get:
Josh Johnson
Adam Wainwright (out for the yr)
Johan Santana (out til July)
Huston Street

I Give:
CC Sabathia
Chad Billingsley
Andrew Bailey

At first glance, I like the deal a lot because of the potential ceilings of the players I'm getting and it is a bargain for 2012. But with that in mind, I am still looking to compete now and I am worried this deal could be a huge risk considering JJ is the only SP that is healthy that I am getting back, and even he has injury concerns from last year. What do you think? I like having a rotation for the future with Wainwright/JJ at the top, and it is a H2H league so the 2nd half is what matters most which is when I would get johan back. As always, leave a link and I will help you out as well...here is my roster:

C Wieters
1B Teix
2B Kinsler
3B A-rod
SS Tulo
OF Kemp
OF Abreu
OF Dom Brown
UTIL Sean Rodriguez
UTIL Dexter Fowler
BN Michael Bourn
BN Kila Ka'aihue
BN Logan Morrison
BN Alcides Escobar
BN Yonder Alonso
BN Chris Davis

SP CC Sabathia
SP Brandon Webb
SP Chad Billingsley
SP Jordan Zimmerman
SP Mike Minor
SP Anibal Sanchez
SP Clayton Richard

RP Mariano Rivera
RP Joe Nathan
RP Andrew Bailey
RP John Axford
RP Matt Capps

Wow, that's tough cause you already have Brandon Webb as well.

Wainwright, Webb, Santana, and JJ all on the same fantasy team? That's just asking for trouble from the injury gods, haha.

While this deal does look really good for your future, if one of your concerns is also to remain competitive in the present, I just don't see it working out for you. If you could not include Billingsley, and maybe not take Santana back or something, maybe it could work although (although that would make it much less appealing for the other party).

I think I would regrettably say no.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

I have to agree that this is too risky, and you're giving up too much for the present. Wainwright may end up missing more than a full season, you never know how pitchers can react to major surgery. And even if Johan comes back healthy in July, he's still not the same old Johan.

I love Josh Johnson, but I would try to get him without saddling myself with too many question marks. I know it's a dynasty league but I would still focus more on winning now and worry about the long run if your current team is out of the race.

Thanks for your help on mine.

It is risky...if it was me, I wouldn't do it.

However it is H2H....with some luck, you can absorb the pitching hit this year....

I would say no to this deal. For one thing, you won't be sure what kind of form Wainwright will be in next season (and odds are he won't be in top 5 form). Santana's ceiling is limited when he returns as well. Bailey/Street is close to a wash and Billingsley is quite underrated (have to remember he lowered his BB last year). I like JJ slightly over Sabathia, but at least Sabathia is a more proven innings eater and doesn't have the kind of lingering health issues JJ has.

This is way too risky. I would not do that trade. Santana is already on the downside of his career and Wainwright just had pretty major surgery.

Only guy really worth getting in the deal for this year is JJ, while Street and Bailey is a wash. Go into the season with what you have and maybe look at the trade again late in the season for next year.

yeah im going to agree, i wouldn't do this deal either. you really stack the odds against you this year. why not take out cc and jj/johan from the other side (about equal). not a fan of biilingsley and bailey is a nice closer, but if those 2 could get you wainwright i think you do it. compete this year and then have the benefit of aw in the future at a reasonable cost.

thanks for the help on mine.

Man if it weren't just so freaking risky, I would say to make this deal. The reward is huge, but the risk is just as equally huge so I really have to lean towards no.

Help with mine?

I like this deal, if you don't mind waiting it out this season.......and building for 2012. Dynasty Leagues are about the future, but eventually you have to play for the present.

I wouldn't worry to much about Bailey's loss, but getting JJ and Wainwright (who I think will bounce back next year) many players do after Tommy John.
