Ok so this is the first year of a Dynasty League comprised of Sports Writers and people currently involved in MLB somehow.
I currently have the 6th pick for our Minor League portion of the draft. So far Harper, Domonic Brown, Mike Trout, and Hellickson are taken.
I was thinking about ramping up pretty good with my first pick on some serious power. It looks like I will get a real shot at Montero or Moustakas with my pick.
I would like to keep this thread going on each of my picks. Being that I am an MLB Scout, I do have a good grasp on a lot of prospects myself, especially with guys that I have seen, but wanted to see what the overall consensus was.
I give Moustakas the slight nod. Montero is a very good hitter, but he may be a Victor Martinez of sorts (when in Boston), playing C/1B/DH because of his subpar defense behind the plate. 3B is surprisingly thin, and Moustakas has the making of a great hitter, could be great value.
I was thinking along the same lines as you. I would love for Montero to stick at catcher, but it doesnt look like it. His offensive upside is staggering and anyone would want that kind of production of their Dynasty team. First pick is crucial and I am not sure what will come of it if the next guy selects either of the two players.
I really would like to get some depth with my picks at scarce positions as well as solidify some good offensive production.

I too like Hosmer, he was in fact the top pick and has had Teixeira comparisons which is hard to ignore. I dont know if I see that kind of power just yet playing out in games, but his ceiling is very high. The thing is that he is a 1B which I may take a chance on getting Belt when the picks come back as I really like his advanced approach and being that he has succeeded at higher levels of play up to this point.
I was actually just going to ask about Belt. How does he rank compared to some of the other guys that have been mentioned in this thread? I don't know if Huff can hold him off, especially considering his usual 1 year on, 1 year off performances.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

I like Hosmer and Belt. I think we'll see Belt this year.
Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball. ~Jim Murray

I think we will see Belt this year too. I saw an AB today where Montero looked really good against Blanton. I know Blanton isnt much to write home about, but he is a MLB pitcher and Montero looked like the more superior player in their matchup.
Montero has also been a regular on all prospect sheets for the past three seasons and while most think that he may grow out of being a catcher, he actually looked pretty good to me today. I think all the hoopla may just be fluff for readers and that he may have a real chance at staying behind the plate.
If moustakas is there is without question the guy you need to take there. I'd agree with the rest, belt or hosmer are your next choices if you want power. Teheran would be a solid pick there as well, or if desmond jennings is still there he could warrant that pick if moose is gone.
