Fantasy Baseball Rookie... Please help

Postby ckunkle » Wed Feb 23, 2011 6:54 pm

So I have my first fantasy baseball draft in a couple weeks and even though I have followed basbeall my whole life, I have never played fantasy baseball.

This is a 10 person H2H league. A friend of mine who is not playing in the league, but has played in the past, suggested I take Roy Halladay at the 2 spot. He claims that if I do not take him at 2, someone will surely grab him before my second pick at #19. Based on average draft positions, Halladay is nowhere near a 2 draft pick. It looks like this league places a big emphasis on pithers (13 pitching categories), but is it still a good strategy to take a pitcher that high?

Any advice would be great. thanks

As politely as I can put it, your friend is an idiot! You have the 2nd slot and that means you do not get to have Halladay. Take Puljols (he should go 1st) or Tulo or Hanley. Halladay should go no higher than 7th. There are a lot of top quality SP's that can be had in rounds 3-5.

Agreed. There's a lot of pitching depth this year.

Pujols
Mcab
Hanley

Your choice of the 3. Don't listen to your friend. Have fun.

Even though the league scores pitchers so highly? There are the same amount of scoring categories for batters and pitchers (13 each). Not sure if others use a similar scoring system, but I don't think that it is the same as Yahoo standard... Still go for Hanley?

I see your dilemma, but I would still pass on Halladay in the 2 spot. Bats before arms. Always. As others have said, pitching is very deep this year.
