Hello,
I am in a 12 team 5x5 mixed auction $260 cap roto league. can keep 7-12 keepers. Add $5 per year for extended years.
I have a pretty good team that actually won the league last year. I am taking it over as I did not run it. This is my 1st year playing where I have to decide on keepers.
My thinking was to lock up the guys with the best value for at least this year and next. Is this the basic strategy most people use? I know injuries could screw me up. Would be more hesitant with Pitchers.
Example I have Span for $1 can keep him 1 yr at that or 2 at $6. his value is $10 before inflation which is about $13 so does it make sense to spend $6 on him now for two years as if I wanted to get his type of production i would have to spend $13. So I can have a $12 value for i yr or $7 for 2 years. These are my option year guys
Current salary Inflation value $
C M. Montero $1 $18
1b Dunn $17 $30
1b A. Gonzalez $20 $41
1b Pujols $45 $62
OF Bourne $2 $14
OF Choo $5 $32
Span $1 $13
Pitchers
M. Cain $7 $26
C. Carpenter $7 $29
D. Price $8 $17
Do I extend these guys just two years? maybe 3 or 4 if there is huge gap in value?
Also I have a few $1 guys who have inflation value like maybe $3 or $4 do I keep some of them to give me more $ at the auction? Example Tyler Colvin $1?
Is this the right way to evaluate players worth of contracts? I have a good group of 12 guys I would spend a good portion of my cap on so I won't have much $ for the auction but it seems like I wouldn't get as good value in the auction
Thanks very much for your help
Joe

Anyone have any advice? I am trying to save myself hours of research. I have already spent hours doing stuff that may be worthless if I am way off base in my thoughts.
I posted this on two other boards too and noone has replied. Am I asking a crazy question or something? I just don't know what most people do with thier players and don't want give $ away to people I shouldn't for even 1 yr let alone the 3 or 4 I am thinking of with some of the guys I have.
Sorry to repost this just trying to get some advice as I am new to the keeper aspect in this type of league
Thanks

thak you very much.
Should I look to keep guys like Colvin for $1 as a potential value for trades later? I also have no closers except J Pap at way to high so I am not keeping him but I have Koji at $5 and Kou at $5 should i look to keep them as they may become closer and if not will kive good production as middle reliever? They look to have just slightly higher inflated value then the $5
