Keeper Opinions - WHIR

Postby Darth Danielus » Mon Feb 21, 2011 6:36 pm

Hey guys...

I'm in a 10 team, yahoo roto 6 x 6 keeper league (ops. and quality starts the extra cats.) EAch team gets to keep 3 batters for as long as we want, and 2 JUST for next year, 3 pitchers for as long as we want, and 2 just for next year. Here are my possible choices...

BATTERS:
3b alex rodriguez
cf carlos beltran
1b adrian gonzalez
c geo soto
c carlos santana
ss jose reyes
2b chase utley
rf corey hart
cf austin jackson
lf carlso lee
cf colby rasmus

PITCHERS:
brett anderson
john axford
daniel bard
josh beckett
trevor cahil
matt cain
cc sabathia
juan guitierez
hong chih kuo
matt capps
fernando rodney

Our league tends to hoard saves for what its worth.....

For batters, I'm leaning toward arod, utley, and agonz for as long as I want, and reyes and one of the catchers for just this year. For pitchers -- cain, sabathia and anderson, and then maybe axford and cahil.

Any ideas/help is appreciated...I'll help in return if I can.

Then keep these guys as long as you want - Gonzo, Santana, Utley, Anderson, Cain and CC.

Thanks guys.

So you figure arod to be less valuable then santana in 2012? I'm all about contending now, and value production over the next 2 years over any kind of long-term prospect value. Not that I wasn't on the fence about possibly just 1-year-ing arod due to his health/age...

Also -- you guys like beckett to bounce back? I'm not set on keeping a closer, but I'd hate to get burned by beckett again (he was my first or second round pick last year.)

As long as you want: Matt Cain, Sabathia, John Axford (should get a lot of saves and sounds like saves may be harder to come by in your league)
Just next year: Josh Beckett (I expect him to bounce back strong but wouldn't count on it for many more years), Trevor Cahill,.

Anyone else? My main dilemna at this point seems to be keeping arod for just one year, and putting someone younger like reyes or santana in his spot VS keeping arod around past this coming season. (also projecting out santana's numbers for the coming season if I decide to just keep him for 1 year.)

I'm fairly certain sabathia, cain and anderson are my best picks at pitcher.....and 2 of cahill, beckett and axford for just next year will be fine whichever way I go.

No reason to follow everyone and hoard saves. I would keep Beckett rather than Axford although I do feel Axford will be dominant again this year for a much improved Brewer team.

Hitters I'd go with ARod, Utley, Gonzo, Reyes and C. Santana.

I think this is spot on. I'd want Santana long term over ARod... and I think Axford might be a good pickup, but expect Beckett to bounce back and be more valuable. Thanks for the help on mine.

yikes this is rough, you keep the guys everyone is telling you but as far as arod or santana for as long as u want thats tough. i think arod has a few good seasons left, but im also very high on santana. i might just roll with arod for as long as you can though with the thought that willsantana really be someone you keep for 3-5 years? youll probably get your hand on better people then him via the draft and want to keep others for as long as you want
