12 team 5x5 roto league, auction draft Hitting categories: R, RBI, SB, OBP, SLG Pitching Categories: W, S, ERA, WHIP, K/9 Auction dollars = $260 Salary cap during season = $300 23 active roster spots = 14 hitters (2 C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, 5 OF, Util, MI, CI) and 9 Pitchers (no SP/RP distinction, any combination)
Must keep minimum of 5 players and no more than 10, salary reduces the $260 auction dollars accordingly
My 8 definite keepers in descending salary order: 1) Pujols ($47), 2) Kershaw ($16), 3) Josh Hamilton ($10), 4) Figgins ($10), 5) Nelson Cruz ($9), 6) Jared Weaver ($9), 7) Brian Wilson ($8), and 8) Phil Hughes ($7) . . . . total = $116, leaving me $144 to fill 15 more spots
Leaning pretty heavily toward Tex ($30) and Swisher ($10) as my final two keepers, but my other options are Matt Capps ($5), Ben Zobrist ($26), or if I want to lock up one of my two catchers with a cheap, workmanlike option I have Yadier Molina ($2) and Doumit ($6) . . .or I could just stick with 8 keepers. Thoughts?
I hem and haw quite a bit on whether or not to spend big money to keep Tex when I am already keeping Pujols and 1B is the deepest position, BUT Tex is priced well for an elite power hitter and I am thinking that the 2 of them could provide a nice cushion to absorb the low SLG baggage that a lot of the cheap base stealer types come with . . .
Tex at $30 is a little high but ok. He should return you that and maybe a little more. Swisher at $10 is giving you some value so I would keep him as well. Not sure i would keep Figgins though.

Thanks Cafe! My main concern is that the 10 keeper selections (with Swish and Tex) leaves me kinda cash poor for the auction, but at the same time I'll have the strong nucleus that is the whole point of spending the money in the first place!
With regard to the question about Chone, I consider him a no brainer since I have to fill both a 2B and MI spot, both of which are slim pickings, plus he'll have dual eligibility at 3b this year and give me a foundation in SB with a little bit better OBP and SLG than most sparkplug type specialists . . . .(I actually traded away Juan Pierre for a minor league keeper and rookie draft pick, which committed me to keeping Chone)
I'd definitely keep Tex at $30. I think you'll get that return on him. Swisher is pretty cheap at $10, but I'm just not that big a fan of his and could more easily throw him back keeping $10 extra for the auction to spend as you see fit.
