Question about pitcher streaming.

Postby Thien » Mon Feb 21, 2011 2:14 pm

One of the categories that go up when a manager pitcher streams is the Ks. Im trying to stop this so would it be better for me to replace it with K/9 innings? Or how about K/BB? Which would be the best for me to use? All advice appreciated.

It is better for everyone to eliminate streaming. If you are on a service (like ESPN) that has a weekly games started max, that is the way to go. It stops streaming completely. A good number is 10 GS per week.

There are alot of alternate ways to eliminate streaming other changing categories. You can limit the number of innings, or limit the number of waiver moves a team is allowed to make.

Fantasy on Yahoo is basically broken until it can implement Max Starts Per Week rule...

It depends on if you are playing H2H or Roto.

In Roto I'd stick an IP limit in there. I'd also stick an IP minimum too.

In H2H, be careful about doing a transaction limit on its own. I played in a league like that and had my entire bench filled with starters. It got a bit ridiculous as there were basically 12 teams carrying 9 hitters and maybe 14 pitchers and then swapping out only pitchers during the week. Best to go with a max starts or IP limit if you can.

Another alternatives is to alter it to a 6x6 setup (using OPS or similar) and introducing another ratio stat on the pitching side like K/BB, which would normally get hit by streaming pitchers.

Best ways to combat streaming are max moves per week coupled with a smaller bench or weekly lineups.

We use yahoo and this is easily fixed by an innings limit and we also charge for moves.
Let's go Mets!

Agree with this. I like the idea that streaming can be a strategy. If you have a deep league (300+ player pool drafted) and an extra ratio (K:BB makes the most sense I think), then streaming is very difficult and if someone is going to skilled enough to pick good matchups with those restrictions, then I say let them.

We also allow you to limit the number of player adds per week. Max Starts Per Week is subject to exploitation using the "fenceposting" thing where you go into the last day with a single start available and then start a full lineup of guys. At the end of a full roto season you're adding a few starts over the course of hundreds of days. In a h2h matchup you're adding a few starts over the course of a week.

Last year my H2H league limited the number of player adds per week and it really cut down on the streaming.
