Last Keeper - Konerko or Furcal

Postby pizzaboy76 » Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:35 am

15 team 5x5 roto keeper league. Players assigned value by round selected in draft, then $5 added to salary each year. I'm trying to decide on my last keeper, Konerko $17, or trade him for Furcal $16.

My current hitting keepers

C-
1B - Miggy
2B - K Johnson
SS -
3B - Zimmerman
OF - Hamilton
OF - Ellsbury
OF - Hewyard
OF - Jennings
IF - Youkilis
DH - Konerko

Why I like keeping Konerko - Cheap power (I know he won't come close to repeating, but 25-30 HR's are reasonable)
Why I don't - Could slide further than I expect and I lock up my utility spot before the draft

Why I like keeping Furcal - When healthy a top 6-8 SS. Could put up 10 HR's and 25 SB's. Contract year. Fills a need a SS that would be hard to fill come draft time
Why I don't - Can't seem to stay healthy for a season.

So should I stick with Konerko or trade for Furcal?

I would easily keep Konerko. As long as your expectations are in line with Konerko's 2009 performance (not his 2010 performance), then he is your guy. Furcal is just too much of an injury risk. At least Konerko will get 20-25 games at DH and stay on the field most of the season.

I think I will take Furcal. Konerko might have the better season but that is not guaranteed plus you go into the draft being able to draft the best player available and not have to worry about position eligibility.

To me, it's Konerko by a long ways.

Is there a third option? I'm not really liking either of those players. Put a gun to me head and I'd take Furcal because you still need a SS.
