What's up w/ Schmidt?

Postby Pujols100M » Sat Mar 27, 2004 3:15 am

Just saw that the DL is an option for Jason Schmidt. Does anyone know how serious he's hurt. Or of another pitcher w/ a similar injury and how long thay may have been out?
Is this somehting that could linger all season? He was a definite keeper of mine (draft on Sun) and now I'm not so sure.

Seeking any info, maybe someone from the left coast.
Thanks

He's recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He'll start the season on the DL, it's unknown how long it will take to heal. He was progressing well but suffered a setback.

I think he peaked a bit last year. I'm definitely concerned coming this year that he won't have enough run support and the loss of his mom will hit him hard finally.

I'd put him behind somebody like Vazquez and about par with Beckett. Great pitcher though but I'd be concerned

Jason Schmidt threw off flat ground for 13 minutes today as he looks to recover from a sore throwing shoulder, according to the AP. "He did fine. He threw harder than yesterday," Giants trainer Stan Conte said. "Jason will get on the mound when he thinks his arm is ready."

He had surgery on his elbow, not his shoulder. His shoulder is having some tenderness due to the fact he may have rushed his rehab a bit. MRI have revealed nothing but some minor swelling of the muscle is what i've read.

Oh Schmidt!
We knew that Nen would be brought along slowly, but now they're lumping Schmidt into the same category. No big deal, he's only the one bonafied starter the Giants have. It's not like I selected him in the early 20s of my draft or anything. Yeah, Woody Rueter deserves to be the opening day starter … in Toy Story III. Fans in the Minute Maid Bleachers may want to duck and cover their heads when Tomko's pitching too. Williams will walk everybody. If you need reassurance, this has happened to Schmidt in years past and they did an MRI on Nen that showed no inflammation in the surgically repaired area. Manager double-speak?

I drafted him too.
