** Quick note had to change the availability of Kershaw so the post has changed a bit**
So this is my first year in a keeper league that's been going on for years now - I'm in a position where I get to pick 6 players from the leftovers from after all the other guys have picked their's (6 for each team). I need to figure out who I should grab and would appreciate any advice (both on players and strategy) - I figure that I might get lucky and get a few good guys, but I'm also thinking that since there's very little chance of me being at the top I can take some risks and pick a few players a bit early and let them grow (or bust!). It's a points based (and crazy complex one too) scoring system (I've added it below in case it helps). After the scoring I've put some of the players below and a few of my thoughts... any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Batters Stat Category Value At Bats (AB) -.33 Runs (R) 1.5 Singles (1B) 1 Doubles (2B) 1.33 Triples (3B) 1.67 Home Runs (HR) 2 Runs Batted In (RBI) 1.5 Stolen Bases (SB) 1 Caught Stealing (CS) -2 Walks (BB) 1.34 Hit By Pitch (HBP) 1.34 Strikeouts (K) -.1 Ground Into Double Play (GIDP) -1 Total Bases (TB) .67
Pitchers Stat Category Value Wins (W) 5 Losses (L) -1.25 Complete Games (CG) 2 Shutouts (SHO) 2 Saves (SV) 4.75 Outs (OUT) 1.3 Runs (R) -1.25 Home Runs (HR) -.2 Walks (BB) -1.05 Hit Batters (HBP) -1.05 Strikeouts (K) 1.05 Batters Grounded Into Double Plays (GIDP) 1 Save Chances (SVOP) -1.5 Holds (HLD) 1.75 Total Bases Allowed (TB) -1.05
Players I'm looking at (and their final points from last year) Adrian Beltre 564.66 David Price 667.65 Jimmy Rollins 268.8 Brandon Phillips 458.45 Shin-Soo Choo 562.95 Chris Young 540.89 Martín Prado 484.81 Kelly Johnson 535.22 Clayton Kershaw 647.8 XXX (not available) Hong-Chih Kuo 326.25 Rafael Soriano 357.9 Michael Young 520.22 CC Sabathia 730.4 Joakim Soria 357.75 Adrian Gonzales 608 Stephen Drew 463.31 Andrew McCutchen 500.92
Right now I'm thinking about securing a couple key positions by taking:
1B Adrian Gonzalez 2B Johnson (or Phillips here?) 3B Beltre SS C OF Choo (or McCutchen) SP Price SP Sabathia RP Soria? (too risky grabbing a closer?)
SO these are who I'm thinking about mainly right now (I'm one over my 6) - I think Johnson, McCutchen are potential young studs who are likely to be keepers down the road and it might make sense to give up the better numbers here and take them and then take the stable other options to round things out. Also am I crazy for passing on Phillips for Johnson here? I get the feeling that Phillips has peaked but maybe I'm wrong.
One of the issues here is that once the draft starts I pick 11th (last) so I go 11/12 then 33/34 so I have a LONG way to go between picks... so once I get my 11/12 I better be set in a lot of key areas because I'll be picking up scrubs.
Again any help here is greatly appreciated.

a darn good starting point joining an existing league CC Price A Gon Choo Cutch with the final spot sort of your choice. You get a chance to compete right now with these keepers and a good draft
Adrian Beltre 564.66 David Price 667.65 Jimmy Rollins 268.8 Brandon Phillips 458.45 Shin-Soo Choo 562.95 Chris Young 540.89 Martín Prado 484.81 Kelly Johnson 535.22 Clayton Kershaw 647.8 XXX (not available) Hong-Chih Kuo 326.25 Rafael Soriano 357.9 Michael Young 520.22 CC Sabathia 730.4 Joakim Soria 357.75 Adrian Gonzales 608 Stephen Drew 463.31 Andrew McCutchen 500.92
Those would be my 6 (Price, McCutchen, A Gonzalez, Drew, Choo, Phillips)

So you would go for SS over a 2B - Drew over Phillips? And I assume Drew is a better long-term choice over Rollins?
I guess the other option is to grab both Drew and Rollins and hope price falls to me at the 11th spot (pitching seems so deep this year that there isn't a huge falloff from him - Latos etc. could be had)
