Interesting Drafting Dilemma--Will Help as Much as Possible

Postby segerfan83 » Sun Feb 13, 2011 12:23 pm

I am in a 16 team keeper league (keep 6). This a rotisserie league. I am drafting 4th this year. Below is my team from last year.

Domonic Brown
Shin Soo Choo
Andre Ethier
Adrian Gonzalez
Alex Gonzalez
Alex Gordon
Jason Heyward
Aaron Hill
Raul Ibanez
Austin jackson
Miguel Montero
Luke Scott
Geovany Soto
Freddy Sanchez
Danny Valencia

Mat Latos
Jon Lester
Rick Porcello
Drew Storen
Stephen Strasburg
Matt Thornton
Jose Valverde

My question is, which 6 do I keep, but most importantly, do I keep Strasburg or do I hope I can get him with my first pick?

I am thinking that I might be able to let him go until the first pick, but if I do that and don't get him, I may regret it for years.

I am thinking here are my 6 keepers:
Shin Soo Choo
Jason Heyward
Adrian Gonzalez
Jon Lester
Mat Latos
Either Soto or Valverde

Please offer some insight.

Choo
A-Gon
Heyward
Latos
Lester

The above five seem like obvious keepers, but your last spot is tougher. Strasburg is very unlikely to play this season, so if you keep him, it's a dead roster spot essentially. However, it's not like you have amazing options in place of him either, so you wouldn't be throwing anyone back that's too important or irreplaceable. Considering that, and Strasburg's enormous potential, I would keep him and hope his rehab goes smoothly enough so that's he ready in 2012.

Andre Ethier is a 28 year old top 50 pick that would never be allowed back in the pool on my team. He had as good a first 2 months as anyone last year b4 the freak pinky injury. He needs to be kept before Latos for sure

Your keepers are just fine and there is no way I am keeping one of them over Strasburg. I am just amazed people are willing to cripple their team before the draft just to keep a guy who won't pitch for at least a year and likely won't be back to normal for another year. I would rather play for this season then hope that everything goes fine for Strasburg and maybe I can win something in a couple years.

Odds are you can get him at some point in the draft (I doubt he is taken in first couple rounds) or trade for him once you see where the season is going.
